THE GUILD IN VENICE 2018

This coming spring there is to be a Ruskin exhibition in Venice. A year before the bicentenary of the first Master of the Guild, John Ruskin:Le Pietre di Venezia will be shown at the Ducal Palace between 10 March and 10 June 2018. A Ruskin exhibition in the palace of the Doges, 'the central building of the world' as Ruskin called it, is a considerable tribute to be paid by a city increasingly conscious of its debt to to Ruskin. The exhibition will focus mainly on Ruskin's work The Stones of Venice and the period during which it was written, emphasising the author's discovery and study of medieval Venice and drawing attention to his distinction as an artist.

In recent years the Guild has been forging links with the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, the charitable institution that, with its huge collection of Tintoretto paintings, influenced Ruskin when he was founding the Guild. The partnership with the Scuola has been pivotal to establishing events and activities next March to complement the exhibition:

21st March  17.30  - Colloquy at the Scuola San Rocco with talks by members of both the       Scuola and the Guild (this is reserved to Companions of the Guild and guests only)

22nd March 13.00 - Ruskin and Venice: A symposium organised by the Guild at the Palazzo     Ducale. Speakers: Robert Hewison (keynote), Rachel Dickinson, Emma Sdegno, Clive Wilmer. Open to all
