I am the Emeritus Professor of Cultural History at Lancaster University and President of the Ruskin Society. My work, investigating the influences of Ruskin and his ideas on Victorian culture and society, has so far resulted in two books: Jeffrey Richards and Kate Newey, John Ruskin and the Victorian Theatre (Palgrave, 2010) Jeffrey Richards, Anselm Heinrich and Kate Newey eds., Ruskin, the Theatre and Victorian Visual Culture (Palgrave 2009)
Why did you become a Companion of the Guild?
To examine the influence of Ruskin and his ideas on Victorian culture.
